ISS Biggest Morning Tea
The students in Year 7 are part of the ISS organizing committee for hosting the annual Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea within our school this year. The Biggest Morning Tea is an annual fundraising event, both locally and internationally, that aims to raise funds for cancer research. These funds are also channeled towards preventing and controlling cancer as well as providing information and support for people affected by this illness.
This event will take place on Friday, October 27, from 10am in the breezeway (covered area between the canteen and the Amphitheatre). Families are kindly requested to contribute a plate of goodies which may include any of the following: cakes, slices, tarts, savories and muffins. Donations may be delivered by parents or students to the staffroom.
Students, parents, staff and friends of ISS are welcome to bring money to our morning tea to purchase goodies that will be on sale from 50c. All proceeds will go to the Fiji Cancer Society. Show your support for this worthy cause by joining us for Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea on Friday, October 27!
As this coincides with Pinktober we would like to encourage everyone to come dressed in pink mufti on this day.
Helping your child handle stress in healthy ways
There will be a parent information session focusing on the above topic in the Amphitheatre Tuesday, October 17 from 8.15 - 9.15am. This session will be facilitated by the primary and secondary school counsellors.
Please take note of the following public holidays:
Fiji Day Tuesday, October 10
Diwali Thursday, October 19
Prophet Muhammad Monday, December 4
Homework Tasks & Assessments
Students are moving into the last phase of their assessments for Year 7. Please find an update for most of the relevant curriculum on the Assessment page of our Year 7 webpage. Parents can access the parent portal for updates regarding student progress. Please find the parent portal guide here.
Poetry Slam - English Assessment
As part of their English assessment this term, the Year 7 students are expected to recite a poem they have authored themselves. This is compulsory for all Year 7 students. Within the next few weeks every family should be receiving an invitation to our Poetry Slam evening, if you haven’t received one by Monday, November 6, please inform me via e-mail as soon as possible. Parent involvement is an integral part of any child’s learning development which is one of the reasons why this has been scheduled as an evening event. The second reason is that this is an opportunity for you to give feedback to your child regarding their learning as each family will be given a rubric to fill in by the end of the night.
Please ensure that your family has dinner before they come to the Poetry Slam evening. Each family is also requested to bring a plate of food along to share for supper after the poetry performance (as most nerves will have transformed into hunger by the end of the evening).
Families to be prompt for our 6:00pm start, so as not to make it a late night for everyone.
Event: Year 7 Poetry Slam
Venue: ISS Amphitheatre
Date: Thursday, November 9 2017
Tuesday activities will continue until week 5, Tuesday November 6.
Thursday Study Session
Every Thursday, during a school term, the Year 7 core teachers will be holding a study session in the Year 7 classrooms from 2.30-3.30pm. Students are welcome to attend this session should they need help with homework, assignments or if they would like extra guidance on concepts they may find challenging to understand. Students do not need to attend every week, but only when they need the assistance. We kindly ask that parents contact the Year 7 pastoral teachers to indicate if your child will be attending.
Study sessions for Term 4 will be conducted on the following Thursday dates: October 26; November 2; November 9; and, November 16.
